An exchange visit on school feeding programme was conducted on 2nd October 2021 at Mawmihthied village, East Khasi Hills. The programme was participated by MDM cooks, teachers, community facilitators and students from Dewlieh community and five communities from Garo Hills District.
Though much progress has been made in the field of nutrition and health sciences since 1947, malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies are hidden pandemics that continue to cause nuisance in all sections of Indian society.
NESFAS conducted four District Level Technical Workshops on Micro-Nutrient Rich and Climate Resilient Crop Species. The workshops provided a general overview of some of the developments that have been achieved from the “No One Shall be Left Behind Initiative: Biodiversity for Food, Nutrition and Energy Security Meghalaya and Nagaland, North East India'' funded by the REC which spanned from 2018-2021.
On the 26th August, 2021 NITI Aayog released the ‘North Eastern Region: District SDG Index, Report and Dashboard Baseline Report 2021-2022’. The report was a damning indictment of Meghalaya’s performance in terms of its progress towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A Technical workshop on Agroecology for the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills cluster took place on the 16th and 17th of September, 2021 via a virtual video meeting. The resource persons, Thomas Iangjuh (Junior Scientist, Bio Resource Development Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya) and Reccica Lyngkhoi (Microbiologist, Bio Resource Development Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya) helped facilitate this event and made it a success.
A follow up visit to Khweng, Ri-Bhoi was conducted on the 27th of August 2021 regarding the Cocoon dyeing training, which is part of the previous training programme in December . This training programme was conducted to essentially try out a new approach to dye the Eri silk which would eventually result in faster production of the same
