Accompanied by Miss Phidarilin Uriah, Associate Trainee, NESFAS, and a fresh menu, Esther M Sawian, Dept. of Flavour Development, NESFAS, set off for the Boys’ Home, Ambrit House, Mawphlang on 27th September, to get the 5th class on the road.
A follow up on the last week’s lessons indicated the boys’ considerable progress on the fundamentals of cooking. This week, the class got a tad more interesting when the boys took on each other in a chopping competition. “To fully engage the participants in the prep work with fun, a nifty push is needed”, said Esther.
The cooking lesson this time featured a class assignment on hard boiling eggs, demonstration on cooking carrot and lentil soup, preparing deep fried brinjal coated in rice batter, with a tomato sauce and lesson on making mayonnaise.
With the fifth installment of the Kids’ Kitchen Initiative, Esther voiced out her appreciation of the students and the weekly classes, “They correctly remembered the particulars for measurements in cooking and ne umber units of ingredients for a dish, not to mention that they heartily accept this initiative as a life guiding experience….”
She assures the boys and us that there are more interesting recipes to come in the following week.
