Where traditional practices meet modern science: Technical Workshop on Agroecology with local farmers

A Technical workshop on Agroecology for the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills cluster took place on the 16th and 17th of September, 2021 via a virtual video meeting. The resource persons, Thomas Iangjuh (Junior Scientist, Bio Resource Development Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya) and Reccica Lyngkhoi (Microbiologist, Bio Resource Development Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya) helped facilitate this event and made it a success.

Dr. Bhogtoram Mawroh calls for the defense of Indigenous Food Systems to secure livelihoods and move Indian Agriculture forward

To celebrate the occasion of the 75th day of independence, the Department of History, in collaboration with the NCC Cadets of Shillong Commerce College, Shillong, organised an online virtual event on the 15th of August. Dr. Bhogtoram Mawroh, Sr. Associate Research and Knowledge Management, NESFAS, was the resource person and gave a presentation on ‘Agriculture in India - A way forward.'

Celebrating achievements and progress on natural farming in India

The first Anniversary of the National Coalition for Natural Farming (NCNF) event was held on July 23, 2021 through an online event. The event addressed  the  emerging agroecological practices that have spread across India, as a form of an agricultural redesign.

Empowering youth to strengthen Indigenous Food Systems

An Indigenous Youth Fellowship Programme at the local level was conducted for a period of one month in April this year; it stried to empower local communities to acknowledge the Indigenous Food Systems (IFS) and simultaneously to safeguard and preserve the agricultural practices for the overall well-being of the communities.

Success experiment: Khweng community member reaps new tomato variety

In the month of August 2020, as part of the ALC experiment, she observed a single young tomato shoot (different variant) sprouting in a spot where different tomato seeds were sowed in her kitchen garden. She removed the plantlet from its original place and sowed it in a different plot where the soil has been enriched with biomass, wood ash and animal manure and also receives ample of good sunlight.
