Millet
Having its antecedents in the South Asian crop origin region, millet is one of the traditional cereals consumed by the local community. This particular millet, which is found in Meghalaya, comes from the farmlands of the indigenous communities from across the state. These farmlands include the jhum fields where more than 40 varieties of food plants are grown. Mimicking natural biodiversity, such systems have a high redundancy and functional diversity. Millet contains numerous nutritional benefits. It is a prime candidate for any climate adaptation strategy. Millet is not only a super food but also a climate change smart crop due to its capability to survive under any kind of weather.
